What is a MAG?
Mutual Aid Group (MAG) is a type of peer-support intervention, defined as the process of giving and receiving nonprofessional, nonclinical assistance from individuals with similar conditions or circumstances. A MAG happens when people experiencing similar conditions, voluntarily gather together to receive support and provide support by sharing knowledge, experiences, coping strategies, and offering understanding. By listening empathetically, sharing their experiences and offering suggestions, these people are particularly able to help others in a comparable situation.
How will this MAG work?
The MAG will have a schedule of 9 online meetings (3 weekly and the following 6 every 2 weeks), with a duration of approximately 60-90 minutes each ; the day and time of the sessions will be schedule according to the group preferences ; an online forum (that will allow participants to share their experiences) will also be available.
What are the target groups of this MAG?
Target group of the MAG are informal caregivers of people with dementia.
An informal caregiver – “is a person who provides unpaid care to someone with dementia (of any kind), outside a professional or formal employment framework (e.g. family members, friends, neighbours, other persons who have an emotional bond).”
